EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM

Available before and after regular school hours, the Extended Day Program provides professional care, supervision, recreation and enrichment activities for your child.  It serves the working parent who desires both Catholic school education and supplementary day care in a Christian environment.  The program is open only to students enrolled at St. Mary School.

7th and 8th grade students who need the After School Program must speak to the Principal for admission in the program.

Preschool children may use the before school program only with the permission of the principal.

This program allows children to experience a rich diversity of growth activities planned to compliment the philosophy and value system of our school and our school families.  Art and craft projects, indoor and outdoor recreation, snack time, and rest periods are available.  In addition, there is time set aside for homework, with some teacher assistance and resource materials available.

The program is staffed by an experienced director and aides.

HOURS

6:45 A.M. - 7:30 A.M.

2:20 P.M. - 6:00 P.M.

(Kindergarten and First Grade are escorted at 2:15)

The program will operate on school days when school is in session.  A weather emergency or other emergency which causes school to be canceled will also result in canceling the Extended Day Program.

When we have early dismissal, the program will operate until 6:00 P.M.  Only children that are already signed up for the program may attend the program.  On these days, students should bring their own lunch.  Milk and snacks will be provided.

There will be no after school program on the first day of school or last day due to the length of the day.

FEES

Registration: $50.00 per child.  This fee is non-refundable and must accompany the  registration form.

Hourly Rate: $6.80 per hour (calculated on the quarter hour).

Fees are the sole support of St. Mary Extended Day Program.  The program is not subsidized by the school or parish.

Fees for the program will be shown on your monthly school statement.  Fees are always one month in rears and will vary from three to five weeks depending on off days and cut off dates.  Prompt payment of these fees is essential so that salaries and supplies may be paid.  Tax identification numbers will be issued upon request.

PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Accurate time is important for billing. Check the school clock for exact timewhen signing in or out. We reserve the right to correct any inaccuracies.

Children attending the morning program are to be dropped off at Entrance 10W, and signed in by a parent. When picking up your child in the afternoon, you must also sign your child out.

IMPORTANT - We will release a child to someone other than the parent only upon receiving written instructions from the parent who signed the Extended Day Program emergency cards. Telephone requests to send a child to a particular place after school or to arrange a pickup by someone other than the parent will not be honored unless you speak directly to Mrs. anderson, 1-847-459-8114.

It is important that you pick up your child by 6:00 p.m.  Staff members have family responsibility and should be free to leave at that time.  A staff member will stay with your child until you arrive, but a late fee of $10.00 per child for every 15 minutes will be assessed, (starting from the first minute).

As members of a Christian and caring community, the children will be expected to respect each other, the staff, and the materials and environment provided.  If a child consistently misbehaves, the child will not be allowed to continue in the program, as stated on the written warning of misconduct as follows:

·                      1st warning: Written warning for permanent file, parent or legal guardian notified.

·

·                      2nd warning: Written warning for permanent file, 2 day suspension from program.

·

·                      3rd warning: Written warning for permanent file, 1 week suspension from program.

·

·                      Final warning: Written warning for permanent file, child is banned from the program.

Children may never leave the building or

grounds without explicit permission of the Extended Day Staff.

SPECIAL PROCEDURES

Illness/Accident - the same procedures followed during the school day will be followed when your child is participating in the Extended Day Program.  (See St. Mary School Handbook)

·                      Parents will be expected to make provisions for taking sick children home.

·                      You are asked to fill out the emergency card for this program.

Homework - Each afternoon a homework period is scheduled, with the staff available to provide assistance.  It is the child’s responsibility to acknowledge his/her assignments and then to pursue the resources available.  The staff has no way of knowing what work, if any, has been assigned to the student.

It is mandatory to attend homework (quiet time) hour (4-5 p.m.) If the child is 3rd grade or higher.  If no homework is given, bring a book.

Absence - When calling the school to report your child’s absence, please ask that the Director be notified if the child was scheduled to attend the program that day.  Absences may also be reported by leaving a message at 1-847-459-8114.

If you take your child home from school for any reason, please leave a written message for the program director.

Play clothes - Children may bring a change of clothes if desired.  Outdoor play is scheduled daily during clement weather, therefore, please make certain your child comes to school dressed properly.  Gym facilities are also available.

Toys From Home - We ask that children not bring toys from home.  Often these items are very personal and important, so the child feels they must be defended and protected.  This is not consistent with the sharing atmosphere we encourage.  If you wish to donate toys or games to be used by all the children, you may do so.  If your child brings a video game, the school is not responsible for loss or damage to the game.

Cell Phone Usage - Any student using a cell phone will result in the phone being taken away; it will then be turned into the principal's office. Parents are responsible for picking up the cell phone.
